An examination of the empirical literature on LGB people of color over a 10-year period (1992 to 2002) indicates that less then 1% of the 14,482 empirical articles published in American Psychological Association (APA) journals included LGB samples (Jernewall & Zea, 2004). In fact, there were only 124 LGB specific articles published in all APA journals, and of those, only 6 (0.04%) focused on on people of color…Empirical research on transgendered people is nonexistent in APA and APA division journals (Jernewall & Zea, 2004)…The lack of empirical research on LGBT people of color in the field of ethnic minority psychology indicates that we are lacking a critical examination of sexuality, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
